Course Description This unit introduces the practice of Employment and Industrial Relations practice in South Australia. The aim of the unit is to provide an introduction to: -The fundamentals of employment law -Wage claims, particularly the components of a underpayment of wages claim and how a claim should be calculated -Termination of employment, particularly the differences between an unfair dismissal claim and a general protections dispute claim -Conciliation conferences and negotiation skills -Workplace safety, particularly the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act and Regulations 1986 (OHS&W) -Workers Compensation, particularly the processes for commencing a claim and disputing decisions -Discrimination in employment including sexual harassment and disability discrimination The course is offered in partnership with South Australian practitioners and agencies.
