CRWR 2010 - Reading and Writing Poetry

North Terrace Campus - Semester 1 - 2019

This course introduces students to both traditional and current techniques and practices of making and producing poetry. It highlights poetry as an adaptable form in its ongoing development and investigates the ways in which poets have always been innovative in exploring new forms for their writing practice and in developing new techniques and technologies that can reach new reading communities. Students will explore these various techniques, forms and structures through critical reading of poetry from the tradition as well as poetry being made now, and through writing poetry in response to this reading, as well as sharing ideas with each other about poem making and poetry ideas. Students will undertake a series of exercises designed to develop an overall creative and critical approach to their writing as well as specific skills in written forms, as well as sound, visual and digital poetry.
