- Program Outline
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is globally accepted as the degree which provides most flexibility for students, while equipping them with the skills base essential for many careers. The choice of courses available in the BA is extensive, and this is reflected in the list of possible majors. We aim to accommodate students with both specific study interests and career plans and also those who want to sample new disciplines and explore associated employment opportunities. Students have complete control throughout their degree, with expert guidance on appropriate course selection available at all times.
Music programs provide the intensive professional training required for employment in the music industry. They seek to provide a challenging and stimulating learning environment in which all students may achieve their full potential. They develop educated, flexible and imaginative graduates who possess the knowledge and skills required to function effectively in a wide range of professional contexts.
The Bachelor of Music program provides a major study in either Classical or Jazz Performance. Complementary ensembles and related specialist skills are also offered. The remainder of the program consists of core studies and some elective courses.
The Bachelor of Music Studies provides for specialisation in Composition, Music Technology or permits a mix of instrumental or vocal studies to be taken in conjunction with studies in Ethnomusicology and Musicology as the Integrated Studies option.
The combined degree Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music comprises the requirements of the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music Studies (72 units) plus selected Level I, II, III and Advanced Arts courses (52 units). It enables students to pursue a broad range of interests in music and the arts in a self-designed, integrated academic program. The study of foreign languages is of particular significance to vocalists and musicologists, while history or anthropology may be of particular interest to an ethnomusicologist. Various media studies may also be of interest to Composition and Music Technology majors.

This program involves 120 units of study, normally taken full time over five years. First year studies focus on music courses, specialising in classical or jazz performance. The remaining four years combine courses from the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music programs

Year 12 applicants
You must not have completed more than 2 years full time equivalent university study (48 units). You must also undertake an audition/interview including an aural/theory test. You compete for a place based on your audition score. Your year 12 Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) is used in the case of a tie-breaker. This program may not be deferred.Prerequisites

Alternative entry pathways
- Higher Education applicants
You must have completed at least half a year full time equivalent higher education study. A Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated for each separate program you have undertaken (apart from some double degree programs where the GPA is combined). You must also undertake an audition/interview including an aural/theory test. You compete for a place based on your audition score. Your best GPA is used in the case of a tie-breaker. This program may not be deferred.
- VET applicants
You must have completed an AQF Certificate IV or above in a Music program. You must also undertake an audition/interview including an aural/theory test. You compete for a place based on your audition score. Further ranking according to the level of VET award is undertaken in the case of a tie-breaker. This program may not be deferred.
- Special Entry applicants
You must be 18 years or over before February 1st of the year that you will be studying. You must undertake an audition/interview including an aural/theory test. You compete for a place based on your audition score. In the case of a tie-breaker, you will be ranked further according to your result in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Personal Competencies (PC) and Employment Experience (EE) statements are not considered. Indigenous applicants may be eligible for entry through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Scheme. See Wilto Yerlo for further information.

Additional Entry Requirements
MID-YEAR entry: Applicants must attend and pass an audition/interview and an aural/theory test. Selections for music programs are made on the basis of audition/interview scores combined with academic achievement and the aural/theory test score.It is possible to audition for more than one instrument or area of specialisation. Separate audition application forms are required for each instrument.

Application forms for the Mid-year auditions round must be returned to the Elder Conservatorium of Music by Friday 25 June 2010.

Entry is subject to satisfactory audition. All applicants for instrumental or vocal place are required to prepare contrasting works, with a total duration of 10-15 minutes. Applicants must submit an audio recording (preferable in CD format) or video recording (videotape in PAL or NTSC format, VCD, or DVD).
