This program is offered at The University of Adelaide Singapore Campus. The program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the processes, risks, rewards, motivations and societal impact of innovation and entrepreneurship with a regional, national, and global perspective. The course is not only for potential entrepreneurs and innovators, but also for those who may need to work with or advise them. It is an articulation degree for those who hold at least an approved Polytechnic Diploma. This program is not available to school leavers.

The program will provide graduates with:

• a sound understanding of the entrepreneurial process, history and types.
  an understanding of who entrepreneurs are and what entrepreneurs do.
• an understanding of innovation and how innovation relates to entrepreneurial activity, processes and outcomes.
• an ability to engage in and understand the process of commercialisation of technology.
  the knowledge of the role of creativity and its impact on enterprises at all levels and at all stages of enterprise development and be able to demonstrate creative thinking.
• an understanding of how opportunities are created or discovered and be able to undertake the steps needed to take advantage of an entrepreneurial opportunity.
• the skills and knowledge to undertake entrepreneurial activity and be able to use their existing or future technical knowledge in an entrepreneurial and innovative manner.

This is an articulation degree program. Entry will be granted to Polytechnic students who hold a diploma or equivalent.

A basic knowledge of business accounting and marketing is assumed. Students without this background knowledge should consult the Program Director for advice.

Assessment will be based on a combination of oral presentations, practical assignments, tutorial participation and written examinations. Both in class and on-line methodologies will be employed. Assessment will consist of a combination of group and individual work. This approach will allow for formative and summative assessment that will assess practical and theoretical knowledge. A focus is on using the formative assessments to assist students in developing their knowledge prior to summative assessment tasks. All assessment tasks will be consistent with University and meet guidelines of good assessment.  Students will have the opportunity to be assessed in a variety of ways throughout the program and within courses. A variety of assessment tasks will allow students to display their ability to apply their knowledge to their technical skill base.  For example, in one of the subjects, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge by taking part in a business planning competition. This will involve team work, presentation skills, analytical and problem solving skills and application of technical knowledge within the domain of entrepreneurship and innovation. They will have the opportunity to provide a written analysis for assessment as an individual component of their assessment, as well as peer and group assessment.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Graduates may be interested in starting up their own businesses, or advising those who do. Advisors may be in the private or government sectors in policy, finance, taxation, regional development and such roles. Graduates may find employment opportunities in innovative or entrepreneurial positions in a wide range of leadership and support roles within existing enterprises, both large and small, or managing new ventures within large organisations.
