  • Program Outline
    This program aims to consolidate the basic musicianship and technique of classical or jazz performers and to increase theoretical knowledge and understanding of. The program comprises Aural Development, Theory of Music and History of Music, Individual Tuition, Ensemble, Music Industry and Business Management, Assignment Writing and Research Skills and Occupational Health and Safety.

    The program comprises 14 units of study over one year part time. This involves Core Studies – aural, theory and history, Specialist Studies, including individual tuition in jazz class or technical idiom/genres and General Studies, including OH&S.

    AMEB Grade 5 Practical; or AMEB CPM Advancing Step 1-2 AND AMEB Grade 3 Theory; or equivalent.
    Alternative entry pathways
    • VET applicants
      You must have completed an AQF Certificate I to IV (or above) in a music program. You must also undertake an audition/interview including an aural/theory test. Further information and audition application forms are available here. Further ranking according to the level of VET award is undertaken in the case of a tie-breaker. This program may not be deferred.
    • Special Entry applicants
      You must be 18 years or over before February 1st of the year that you will be studying. You must undertake an audition/interview including an aural/theory test. You compete for a place based on your audition score. In the case of a tie-breaker, you will be ranked further according to your result in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Personal Competencies (PC) and Employment Experience (EE) statements are not considered. Indigenous applicants may be eligible for entry through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Scheme. See Wilto Yerlo for further information.
    • Additional Entry Requirements ?
      MID-YEAR entry: Applicants must attend and pass an audition/interview and an aural/theory test. Selections for music programs are made on the basis of audition/interview scores combined with academic achievement and the aural/theory test score.

      It is possible to audition for more than one instrument or area of specialisation. Separate audition application forms are required for each instrument.

      Application forms for the Mid-year auditions round must be returned to the Elder Conservatorium of Music by Friday 25 June 2010.
