The Discipline of Nursing brings together an energetic enthusiastic group of nursing clinicians and academics interested in furthering nursing as a practice and as a discipline. Staff are engaged in research into experiences of health and illness, the practice of nurses and the effects of nursing practice on health outcomes. Alongside our research activities, a wide range of specialist study options are available in the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master and doctoral degrees in nursing through coursework and research (DNurs) or research only (PhD).
All our academic staff are experienced clinicians and all teaching within the Discipline is informed by ongoing active research. Postgraduate students within the Discipline are exposed to teaching processes which although demanding are also interesting, exciting and interactive. Students enrolled within the Discipline are encouraged to develop their skills in nursing practice, in nursing inquiry and in the ability to debate and critique within the broad health arena.
A strong feature of the Discipline is our belief that it is essential for postgraduate nursing students to focus on the real world of practice and on issues that will improve the health of individuals and communities through advanced nursing practice and nursing knowledge.
The Discipline is closely aligned with clinical practice in the hospital, in the community and in long stay residential care and regional rural hospitals. Students in the Discipline are given strong support from the staff, who in turn, are well supported within the School and the Faculty.
