  • Program Outline

    Chemical Engineering involves the systematic design, development and operation of process systems for the extraction, transformation and recovery of materials. It is a key engineering discipline, which combines knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics with engineering principles and real world economic considerations. The scale of operation varies from small to very large, and a principal feature of chemical engineering is the translation of laboratory-scale research results to large-scale commercial production.

    Chemical Engineering is the discipline which sustains and improves a range of industries as diverse as food processing, petrochemicals, ceramics, petroleum refining, primary metals, plastics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, glass and specialty chemicals

    This program offers candidates the chance to specialise in cutting-edge technologies aligned to their career pathways. It is suitable for engineering graduates with Honours who wish to pursue further studies, as well as engineers with relevant work experience. Successful candidates may articulate to the Master of Engineering (Advanced).

    This 24-unit program includes 9 units of core courses comprising statistics, system modelling, and management and is designed to provide generic skills applicable across all fields of engineering. The remaining 15 units are discipline specific courses providing additional technical material at a level beyond that of a first engineering degree.

    Intending students should consult the program coordinator early in the year in which they plan to study to check when particular courses or projects will be available.

  • Program Structure
    This 24 unit program is suitable for engineering graduates with Honours who wish to pursue further studies, as well as engineers with relevant work experience (up to 12 additional units of enabling courses may be required depending on the exact nature of the applicants qualifications - this may extend study by a semester).

    The program includes 9 units of core courses including statistics, system modelling, and management and is designed to provide generic skills applicable across all fields of engineering. The remaining 15 units are of discipline specific chemical engineering courses that provide additional technical material at a level beyond that of an undergraduate engineering degree. The selection of the latter courses will enable candidates to explore a sub-discipline at some depth or acquire further knowledge across a broad front.
