The Professional Certificate in International Trade aims to provide you with a practical understanding of current international trade and investment issues, the political dynamics of the negotiating environment and the opportunities and challenges presented to businesses by the globalised economy.
Whether you’re studying corporate finance, marketing strategies or applied economics, today’s globalised environment requires you to understand how your work will be impacted by bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, international trade disputes and non-economic societal influences on international markets. This program is designed to give you an extra competitive edge by providing you with an interactive case-study based background in how business and government interact in trade negotiations, leveraging commercial opportunities arising out of “third wave” trade agreements, and practical legal and commercial aspects of export marketing.
This unique program is headed by the former WTO Deputy Director-General and staffed by Australian and overseas experts in global commercial matters.
The Professional Certificate in International Trade consists of three courses:
TRADE 5000 AND TRADE 5001 must be complete before students can enrol into TRADE 5002. The minimum study period is therefore one year, taken part-time. For more information see the Study Plan.
Core courses:
TRADE 5000 International Trade: Negotiations & Agreements*
TRADE 5001 International Trade: Strategies & Opportunities*
TRADE 5002 Project in International Trade**.
*These courses may articulate into two unspecified electives (6 units) of advanced standing in some Business School and School of Economics masters programs.
**To recieve the named award "Professional Certificate in International Trade" students must successfully undertake this course. The Project in International Trade can only be undertaken if the other 2 courses ( TRADE 5000 and TRADE 5001) have been sucessfully completed.
Local and International* students who are enrolled in any of the above programs may be permitted to enrol in the courses offered in the Professional Certificate in International Trade (PCIT) as electives. Students who complete all three PCIT courses (see Study Plan) will receive the Professional Certificate in International Trade award.
*International students may not enrol into the Professional Certificate in International Trade as a stand alone program. Studying the PCIT courses as elective choices within a Masters program such as those listed above is the ONLY manner in which international students are able to undertake the Professional Certificate in International Trade due to the short duration of the program.
