Program Outline

The Honours Degree of Bachelor of Medical Science (HB.MedSc) is a program of study available only to students who have passed the Third Year Examination for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). There are two study options for obtaining a degree of HB.MedSc-(a) full-time study with intermission from the MBBS program, or (b) part-time study concurrent with the MBBS program.
The recommended option is for MBBS students to intermit for a year and enrol in the degree of HB.MedSc on a full-time basis.
Program Structure

Students who pursue The Bachelor of Medical Sciences - Honours program, gain much in terms of maturity, insight into the research culture, practice in scientific thinking, understanding of scientific methods, skills in verbal and written scientific communication and time management skills.

Student who opt to study the Bachelor of Medical Science - Honours program full time benefit from being ‘immersed’ into research activities without having other study commitments.

Checklist

Option 1: Full-time degree of HB.MedSc – intermission from the MBBS

1. Obtain the approval of Supervisor and School Honours Coordinator.

2. Complete the Application for Honours form.

5. When the Dean and Director of the Medical Program has given written approval for the Leave of Absence, the Personal Assistant will forward all the documentation to the Faculty Office to process admission to the Honours program.

6. Enrol on-line in February.

Option 2: Part-time degree of HB.MedSc – concurrent with the MBBS

1. Obtain approval from Supervisor and School Honours Coordinator.

2. Complete Application for Honours form.
