  • Program Outline

    The University of Adelaide’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree is a widely recognised qualification. Many leading companies now demand an MBA as a basic requirement for senior management positions. Completion of a rigorous MBA degree testifies to your ability to map out a course of action and see it through. It equips you with valuable life-long skills in critical thinking, leadership, understanding behaviour and analysis that are useful beyond the workplace.

    The MBA (Advanced) program (16 courses) goes beyond the standard 12-course MBA degree, and is designed to cater for several different niches:

    • Students seeking the highest levels of organisational leadership and thus wishing to broaden their coverage of managerial knowledge;
    • Students wishing to specialise in particular areas of general management;
    • Students wishing to carry on their life-long learning by adding accredited courses to their MBA qualification.

    The University of Adelaide’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is widely recognised for its high quality and rigour, equipping students with lifelong skills in leadership. Within an interactive face-to-face environment conducive to adult learning, courses provide learning experiences in a variety of teaching formats.

    The Adelaide MBA program emphasises the development of the ability to:

    §  understand the functional interrelationships between different parts of an organisation and the broader interaction of the organisation with its environment

    §  recognise and act effectively on problems and opportunities confronting an organisation

    §  coordinate and apply an organisation's financial, physical, technological and human resources in persuit of important objectives

    §  understand and communicate effectively with people inside and outside of an organisation

    §  evaluate current management policies and practices to develop new ways to improve organisational effectiveness

    §  provide strong leadership

    Program Delivery

    Duration

    The duration of the program is 1.5 - 2 years full time and up to 6 years for part-time.

    Trimester teaching sessions

    Each course (subject) is delivered over a 12-week trimester, allowing students to condense studies into a shorter period of time.   There are 3 trimesters each year.

    After Hours Teaching

    Most classes are scheduled to accommodate full-time working professionals. Classes are generally held on weeknights, with one 3-hour teaching block per week. Some courses are delivered fornightly on Saturdays, in a 6-hour teaching block.

    Intensive Courses

    Several courses are offered in intensive mode. Classes are generally held over a Friday evening and Saturday morning, 3 times per trimester.   Alternatively, they may be taught over 3 x 2 day blocks.

  • Assessment

    Assessment of courses usually comprises an individual assignment, a group assignment and an examination.  Some courses also include student participation in the classroom as an assessable component.  Students must pass all pieces of assessment in order to pass a course.

    A completed Bachelors degree or equivalent, plus at least three years relevant work experience and a satisfactory Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score; or, completed Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Adelaide.

    Students are able to specialise in a particular discipline area by undertaking all their electives in that discipline.
