    Advancing Practice. Clinical Impact

    The Master of Nurse Practitioner is an academic program designed to provide opportunities for registered nurses to expand their skills and extend their scope of practice to prepare them for roles as nurse practitioners. In addition, students will develop advanced skills in clinical inquiry, practice and leadership in professional nursing. To be eligible for entry into the Master of Nurse Practitioner, candidates must have completed the Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science, or an equivalent degree, in the specialty for the stream of nurse practitioner in which they aim to practice and have at least two years post-registration nursing experience.

    The Master of Nurse Practitioner will provide graduates with a rigorous grounding in research methods, extended clinical practice skills, advanced health assessment, applied pharmacology, diagnostics, critical analysis, clinical management and leadership.

  • Program Structure

    Stage 1: Successful completion of Graduate Diploma (24 units)

    Stage 2:
    Candidate shall complete:

    • Extended Clinical Practice I
    • Extended Clinical Practice II
    • Applied Pharmacology in Nursing

    And one of the following:

    • Interpretive and Critical research in Health

    And one of the following options:

    Option 1: Dissertation andCoursework

    • Research Dissertation A or
    • Research Dissertation A (Stage 1) and
    • Research DissertationA (Stage 2)

    Option 2: Coursework

    • Systematic and Critical Reviews of Research
    • Critical ReviewProject

    And one of the following:

    • Clinical Management
    • International Issues in Nursing Service Delivery
    • Interpretive and Critical Research in Health
  • Assessment

    May include: essays, research proposals, dissertation, portfolios, manuscript for publication.

    Graduate entry only.
    Applicants must:

    1. hold a Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science of the University, or equivalent, in the specialty in which they propose to practice as a Nurse practitioner; and

    2. have a minimum of 5000 hours of practice and evidence of current employment of at least 0.6 FTE as Nurse Practitioner candidate in the specialty in which they chose to practice; and

    3. be a Registered Nurse, or be eligible for registration, as a nurse in Australia/New Zealand.

    All applicants must ensure they correctly answer the question relating to Nursing current practising certificate when applying on GradStart. SATAC will attempt to confirm their registration on the online register of the relevant Nurses Board but if SATAC is unable to do so, applicants will be asked to submit a certified copy of their certificate.
