Program Outline

Advancing Practice. Clinical Impact

This program of study will provide nurses working in a community or primary care position with the opportunity to explore a range of issues and topics related to professional practice in these settings. To ensure that the program is relevant to students’ practice setting, there is some scope to individualise the program by selecting from the courses that are offered in this or another program. Please discuss individual needs with the program co-ordinator.

The Master of Nursing Science (Community Health and Primary Care) provides graduates with a rigorous grounding in aspects of professional practice necessary to assume leadership roles in this area of specialty nursing practice. Students will also graduate with an understanding of areas such as incontinence, health promotion, palliative care, primary health care and chronic illness.
Program Structure

Stage 1 (Graduate Diploma) of this program can be undertaken either full-time over one year or part-time over two years. Stage 2 (Master of Nursing Science) can be undertaken with an additional one year full-time or two-years part time study.

This program allows the student to exit with the Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science (Community Health and Primary Care) after completing 24 units of study, or undertake the award of Master of Nursing Science with a further one year of full-time or two years of part-time study.
Assessment

May include essays, case studies, discussion board participation, presentations, poster presentations, critiques, portfolios and exams.

Selection Criteria

Graduate entry only.

Applicants must: 1. be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a nurse in Australia or New Zealand, and 2. hold a degree of Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent; or, have at least two years experience as a registered nurse in the field of the specialisation to be undertaken.

All applicants must ensure they correctly answer the question relating to Nursing current practising certificate when applying on GradStart. SATAC will attempt to confirm their registration on the online register of the relevant Nurses Board but if SATAC is unable to do so, applicants will be asked to submit a certified copy of their certificate.

Additional Entry Requirements

Applicants must also complete an "Additional Information Request Form", available at www.health.adelaide.edu.au/nursing/students/future/programs/. This form should be submitted within ten working days after applying.
