Sustainable energy engineering enables development of long-term solutions to meet the world's rapidly growing energy needs using renewable or sustainable energy sources.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Sustainable Energy) focuses on the electrical technologies supporting renewable energy systems including solar and wind generation technologies, and the power systems used to transfer electric energy across long distances.
This degree is suitable for students interested in environmentally friendly electrical energy production through developing higher performance and lower cost renewable energy systems.
This degree provides a general electrical engineering background with specialised knowledge in sustainable energy. It includes introductory courses in electrical machines, power electronics and power systems followed by advanced courses in renewable power generation and the distribution of renewable energy.
A sustainable energy-related project in the final year gives students the opportunity to further explore a specialist topic in this field.
Students are required to complete 12 weeks approved practical experience.
Assessment can vary from course to course and can include a combination of class work, tutorials, assignments, laboratory work, quizzes, project work and exams.

#Students who have not passed SACE Stage 2 Specialist Mathematics are required to enrol in MATHS 1013 Mathematics IM as a prerequisite to enrolling in MATHS 1011 Mathematics IA. The satisfactory completion of MATHS 1013 Mathematics IM is in addition to the normal requirements of this program.

Unless exempted by the Faculty, all international students are required to undertake a specialist course ENG 3003 Engineering Communication EAL. This course must be completed in the first semester of study and will be presented in lieu of another course as determined by the Faculty.
The availability of all courses is conditional on the availability of staff and facilities.
Graduates will be electrical engineers with the specialised knowledge to design, develop and build renewable energy technologies that will sustain future generations.
They will be able to work in various industries involved with the development of the next generation of solar and wind turbine systems, integrating renewable energy sources into the power grid and controlling power distribution networks that contain a mixture of conventional and renewable power sources
Graduates will also have the flexibility to work as electrical engineers in a wide variety of fields such as mining, automotive and manufacturing.

The objective of the undergraduate Electrical and Sustainable Energy Engineering program is to produce graduates with specific attributes as outlined in the University Calendar.
The program is provisionally accredited as satisfying the necessary requirements for graduates to qualify for professional membership of Engineers Australia.
Students are required to complete 12 weeks of approved practical experience outside normal class time. Practical experience can be undertaken in Australia or overseas.
