This program has been designed to assist professionals in the addiction field to better understand drugs, addiction processes and treatment options. It provides understanding of biological processes at an advanced level useful to for example medical practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists, educators, law enforcement officers, counsellors, project officers.
The program is offered only via distance education, on a part-time basis. There is no requirement to attend classes or examinations at the University. The program is therefore ideally suited to those who wish to study whilst continuing their regular work commitments. We encourage a steady study pace with regular assignments and group discussions to which you have to contribute.
Students participate in online group discussions and also receive online access to a complete guide to learning for each course, journal articles, book chapters, audio and video lectures, notes and other resource materials necessary for study by distance education. Students communicate with teaching staff and program administrators via online education services and email.
Dr Femke Buisman-Pijlman will be your program coordinator for this program. She has been awarded several teaching awards for her skills in facilitating distance education, like the South Australian Early Career Science Educator of the Year - Tertiary Education 2012. She is passionate about teaching and helping you meet your learning goals and ambitions in the addiction field.
Students complete 2 core courses in Alcohol and Drug Studies.
