  • Program Outline

    There will be no intake into this program in 2012 or 2013.

    The creative writing programs aim to develop a writer's skill by providing:
     

    • opportunities to work with qualified staff, mentors and fellow writers over an extended period in order to develop writing skills
    • opportunities to explore individual approaches to writing and creativity in a supportive, structured environment
    • practical experience through the sharing of writing exercises in workshops, as well as skills in research, revision, development of material and critical understanding
    • opportunities to contribute to professional journals and other publications. Writers will gain knowledge of the processes involved in editing and publication, as well as distribution, promotion and dissemination
    • development of an understanding of the changing possibilities for creative writing in Australia and internationally, from an author's point of view
    • encouragement of artistic confidence and independence.
  • Program Structure
    The coursework program is structured around weekly on campus seminars and individual consultations on work in progress. Information on part-time study is available from the English Discipline office.

    Students who choose to leave with a Graduate Certificate may re-apply later to re-enter the Graduate Diploma or Masters program in order to complete a higher qualification.

    A completed Bachelors degree or equivalent and a good portfolio of creative writing.
    Additional Entry Requirements
    Submission of a portfolio of creative writing to the Discipline of English at the time of application (Discipline of English, University of Adelaide, North Terrace, Adelaide, SA, 5005). Details of requirements for the portfolio can be obtained from the English Discipline (www.hss.adelaide.edu.au/english/).
