  • Program Outline

    The Graduate Certificate in Nursing Science (Apheresis Nursing) is an academic plan designed to enhance the theoretical base and clinical skills of the registered nurse who is working in the area of apheresis. The speciality of apheresis is dynamic and evolving and requires nurses to work at an advanced level. This program provides the opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of the assessment and management of patients undergoing apheresis procedures and the technology used. It aims to:

    • enhance the student’s knowledge of the diseases for which apheresis is required
    • enhance the student’s knowledge of apheresis technology and the principles underlying the application of skills in this speciality through the provision of appropriate readings and activities provide the student with the opportunity to build on knowledge already acquired
    • encourage the student to search the literature and become familiar with current research papers relating to apheresis nursing practice that can assist in supporting and evaluating the care  provided for the donor or the patient undergoing apheresis procedures in a adult or paediatric setting.
  • Program Structure

    Two specialist courses consisting of Apheresis Nursing I and Apheresis Nursing II can be undertaken over two semesters of part-time study. It is a requirement that Apheresis Nursing I is completed before the student undertakes Apheresis Nursing II.

    Graduate entry only.
    Applicants must: 1. be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a nurse in Australia or New Zealand, and 2. hold a degree of Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent; or, have at least two years experience as a registered nurse in the field of the specialisation to be undertaken.

    All applicants must ensure they correctly answer the question relating to Nursing current practising certificate when applying on GradStart. SATAC will attempt to confirm their registration on the online register of the relevant Nurses Board but if SATAC is unable to do so, applicants will be asked to submit a certified copy of their certificate.

    Additional Entry Requirements
    Applicants must submit to the School of Nursing a Curriculum Vitae along with an "Additional Information Request Form", downloaded from the website: http://health.adelaide.edu.au/nursing/future-students/postgraduate/coursework/. This form should be submitted within ten working days after applying. Applicants must provide a Curriculum Vitae with the form.
