The Bachelor of Medical Science - Honours program is a research-based degree, the main component of the program is a research project, leading to the production of a research report or thesis. The Honours program is available only to students who have passed the Third Year Examination for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
Students who pursue The Bachelor of Medical Sciences - Honours program, gain much in terms of maturity, insight into the research culture, practice in scientific thinking, understanding of scientific methods, skills in verbal and written scientific communication and time management skills.
There are two study options for obtaining a Bachelor of Medical Science - Honours (a) full-time study with intermission from the MBBS program, or (b) part-time study concurrent with the MBBS program.
Students who opt to study the Bachelor of Medical Science - Honours program full time benefit from being ‘immersed’ into research activities without having other study commitments.

When the Dean and Director of the Medical Program has given written approval for the Leave of Absence, the Personal Assistant will forward all the documentation to the Faculty Office to process admission to the Honours program. 6. Enrol on-line in February. Option 2: Part-time degree of HB.MedSc – concurrent with the MBBS 1. Obtain approval from Supervisor and School Honours Coordinator. 2. Complete Application for Honours form.
