- Program Outline
This program develops advanced levels of expertise in pedagogy (learning, teaching and related processes) and performance while developing a thorough understanding of their relationship. Candidates possessing an Honours degree or Graduate Diploma in Performance may be considered for status in the performance courses, allowing them to complete the Masters program in one year by undertaing Pedagogy Seminars IV and V, and Pedagogy Practicum IV and V over two semesters.

The program provides 12 units of performance courses and 12 units of pedagogy courses each year. Two minor recitals, with pedagogy related themes, are undertaken in Year 1, and a major recital is undertaken in Year 2. Individual tuition is provided each year. Pedagogy courses are taught in seminars and workshops with off-campus teaching practice in selected schools and colleges.

Anyone applying for a place with a specialisation in Performance, Composition or Performance Pedagogy, needs to audition.Audition material should be supplied in a CD or DVD format. A 'live' audition is not required. The CD or DVD should clearly state the date on which the recording was made and whether it represents a 'live' performance, commercial release or radio broadcast.

Entry to all music programs is subject to satisfactory academic achievement and audition. Please provide the details of the specialisation for which you are auditioning when you apply. Applicants for instrumental or vocal places are required to prepare contrasting works, with a total duration of 10 - 15 minutes. A recording (preferably in DVD format) must be submitted to the International Office. The recording must be clearly labelled with the applicant's name and instrumental specialisation, and accompanied by a letter of verification (preferably from a teacher) stating that the recording is a true representation of the applicant's performance. A list of pieces studied over the past 2 years is also required. The audition will be assessed for music achievement and potential for study at degree or pre-degree level. Applicants who are living in Adelaide may be asked to attend a live audition.How to Apply

The program provides 12 units of performance courses and 12 units of pedagogy courses each year. Pedagogy courses are taught in seminars and workshops with off-campus teaching practice in selected schools and colleges.

The study plans given are examples of pathways through this degree for students that commenced their program in 2013 (refer to the program rules). Students that commenced in previous years should refer to the tabs above(referring to years) or consult their Faculty for advice.
To complete the Master of Music (Performance and Pedagogy) candidates must satisfactorily complete the following courses (48 units).

- Major Recital IV (12 units; students of brass instruments or bassoon may give two short 30 minute recitals in lieu of Major Recital IV)

In special cases the Director may approve different but equivalent sets of exercises.
- Career Opportunities
Graduates commence dual careers as performers in one or more specialist branches such as solo performance, chamber music or orchestral playing secondly as teachers able to function successfully in a wide variety of settings and circumstances. Subject to local registration or accreditation requirements, graduates may consider primary, secondary and tertiary level piano teaching in the private studio, the school and college campus, as well as various teaching modes such as individual or small-group.
