This degree offers students the chance to specialise in cutting edge technologies aligned to their career pathways. It is suitable for engineering graduates who wish to pursue further studies, as well as engineers with relevant work experience.

The Master of Engineering (Electronic) is intended for graduates with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic), or similar qualification, who wish to undertake more advanced studies in selected specialist topics in electronic engineering. It provides an opportunity to study specialist topics such as telecommunications, microelectronics, image sensors and processing, and power electronic systems, as well as an opportunity to develop advanced levels of understanding of related topics in mathematics, project management and systems engineering.

The Master of Engineering comprises a foundation year and an advanced studies year. The foundation year consists of a set of courses designed to ensure that students acquire a level of expertise in the relevant specialisation. The program gives students the opportunity to study technical courses at an advanced level and the opportunity to engage in a research project.

An exit path will be available for students completing only the foundation year, after they satisfy a set requirement in the relevant discipline. In this case a graduate diploma will be awarded.

To remain in this program, students must maintain a high grade point average (GPA) throughout their candidature.

*It is part of Engineers Australia's practice to only afford provisional accreditation before the first cohort of students graduates, therefore this degree is provisionally accredited.

  • Degree Structure
    The Master of Engineering is a 48-unit program comprising 12 units of core courses, 12 units of foundation courses, 12 units of advanced technical coursework and a project to the value of 12 units, which introduces candidates to research. Normally, students will complete the requirements for the Master of Engineering in two years of full-time study.

    Graduates of a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Adelaide or another institution whose program is equivalent to an AQF level 8 honours program, and accredited under the Washington Accord will be eligible to be considered for credit allowing them to complete the master's program in less than two years, with a minimum of one year of full-time study.

    International students from non-English speaking backgrounds will be required to take an English language communications course as part of the program.

    The availability of all courses is conditional on the availability of staff, facilities and sufficient enrolments.

    Assessment

    Assessment includes course and project work. All students are required to complete a minimum of 12 weeks of practical experience outside normal class time. Practical experience can be undertaken in Australia or overseas.

    Students who have already completed equivalent practical experience that is deemed acceptable by the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences may be given a partial or total exemption from this requirement.
