Dr Amal Karunaratna
Biography/ Background
Amal Karunaratna is a senior lecturer at the Shool of Commerce. He is an active researcher in the area of International Marketing, with publications in international journals. His current research interests include the influence of consumer responses to information about the country of origin of components in motor vehicles and how they influence perceptions for the whole product. He is also interested in the influence of culture and the internationalisation of firms. More recently, he is working in the area of how Biotechnology firms become internationalised.
Prior to joining the School of Commerce, Amal was discipline head at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Adelaide, the University of Southern Queensland and Bond University. He has been a visiting faculty member at the AGSM University of NSW, Mt. Eliza Business School and the Graduate School of Business at Sydney University.
Prior to his academic career, Amal worked in technology transfer at the University of Adelaide, in the computer industry and was training to be a research scientist.
Research Interests
Amal's research activities are in international marketing channels, country of origin, cultural influences of business to business marketing, technology commercialisation, particularly biotechnology. He has also developed decision making tools for teaching and research using commercially available software such as Excel and uses computer simulations in his teaching. In 1999 he was awarded Lecturer of the year by the post-graduate students association.
