Dr Aye Aye Gyi
Biography/ Background
I undertook my basic medical training in Institute of Medicine (1) Rangoon in 1992 and subsequently completed a Master of Medical Science in the same Institute where I examined a number of Neuro Histological methods to demonstrate a variety of neuromuscular junctions in human embryos. Following a brief period as a Physician and Clinical Lecturer in the Anatomical Science in Rangoon, I moved to the La Trobe University of Victoria, Australia in mid-2002 to take up my PhD program in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.
My PhD research was on the scope of hyperglycemia management in stroke patients and conducted in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at the La Trobe University of Victoria. Following completion of my PhD in 2005, I subsequently started my research career at the Joanna Briggs Institute from 2005, and engaged in Institute’s evidence-based research projects that inform health care policy and practice.
Since 2005, I have been actively engaging in a range of operational, evaluative research, consultancy/commissioned research nationally and internationally; and undertaking responsibility for managing an active portfolio of consultancies and an ongoing research program ranging from small local projects in hospitals, health services, clinics and community and care services to major, large scale national and international studies. In particular, I have substantial experience in systematic and comprehensive search of national and international literature, critical review of identified studies, and synthesis of identified findings to develop a new body of synthesised evidence to inform policy and practice. Additionally I have particular expertise in research design and quantitative data analysis.
I have also contributed significantly to the supervision of a number of Higher Degree by Research students; 3rd year and 4th year MBBS students research course work programs at the University of Adelaide.
Also, as a Research Fellow at the team of Translation Science at the Institute, I am committed to develop evidence-based resources and tools designed to assist clinicians to deliver evidence based practice at the point of care in JBI COnNECT+. I am now taking overall responsibility for the management of the general Medicine node and Patient Safety node, and am looking forward to this work, and engaging with members and reference groups to improve these nodes.
