Dr Carmen KrapfBiography/ BackgroundI am a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian School of Petroleum, where I am leading the Lake Eyre Basin Analogues Research Team. My research interests are in clastic sedimentology, geomorphology and sequence stratigraphy, focusing on dryland environments, including fluvio-aeolian- lacustrine interaction, palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, remote sensing and GISProfessional Work History
QualificationsDr.rer.nat. (Ph.D., with excellence)in Geology, 2003, University of Wuerzburg, Germany. Thesis: "Ephemeral river systems at the Skeleton Coast, NW-Namibia: Sedimentological and geomorphological studies on the braided river dominated Koigab Fan, the Cenozoic succession in the Uniabmond area and comparative studies on fluvio-aeolian interaction between ephemeral rivers and the Skeleton Coast Erg"Dipl. Geogr. (MSc), 1999, University of Wuerzburg, Germany. Thesis: Geomorphological satellite map 1:250.000 of the Karas-Region, Namibia Vordiplom (BSc) in Geography, 1995, University of Wuerzburg, Germany Teaching InterestsShort Courses for Industry:Clastic Depositional Environments and Sequence Stratigraphy (5 days) - This is a five day course that focuses on the practical application of depositional environment interpretation and sequence stratigraphy. It avoids the sometimes confusing jargon where possible, and uses many exercises to emphasize the main concepts and applications. Geology of Clastic Reservoirs (5 days) - This course offers an in-depth analysis of the distributions, geometries and sedimentary architectures of clastic reservoir facies. Participants will learn the criteria for distinguishing reservoir facies using wireline log, image and core data, how to interpret facies distributions at regional and field scales, and how to integrate this information into exploration and development projects. Dryland Fluvial Analogue Reservoir Workshop, Lake Eyre, Central Australia - this is a seven day field workshop that will illustrate the fluvial, aeolian, lacustrine and terminal splay systems on the western shore of Lake Eyre. Research InterestsThe current main activity of my research is in the area of clastic reservoir analogues from dryland enviroments, e.g.:1)Modern terminal splay reservoir analogues, Lake Eyre, Central Australia 2)Modern fluvial-aeolian-lacustrine successions, Lake Eyre, Central Australia and Skeleton Coast, NW Namibia 3)Dryland Sequence Stratigraphy, Neales Cliff, Central Australia For more detail go to: http://www.asprg.adelaide.edu.au/RARGwww/dryland/rarg_dryland.html Further Research interests include:
