Biography/ Background

Carol joined the staff as an Associate Lecturer in early 2005. Her PhD thesis ('Architecture and Polite Culture in Eighteenth-Century England: Blackstone's Architectural Manuscripts') was completed in March, 2007 and she is currently working on an edition of William Blackstone's 'Elements of Architecture'(1747). Carol's research interests focus upon the professions in eighteenth-century England and English social and cultural history 1660-1760. She is also interested in teaching and learning in Higher Education.  She is completing a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education at the University of Adelaide.

In 2008 Carol joined Katherine Ellison (Illinois State University) in an interdisciplinary project which is investigating the potential of Second Life for learning and teaching in the Humanities. They are constructing a virtual 18th century London to test the pedagogical & practical value of virtual worlds as an innovative learning and teaching space for the Humanities in Higher Education.  

In keeping with her intetest in learning and teaching in Higher Education Carol accepted a part time position in 2009 as a Learning Advisor in the Professions Learning Centre. In this role she consults with post graduate students and provides workshops in academic writing and study skills.
