Research Interests

Project: Conversion of feed barley varieties to malting types.

The aim of this project is to convert feed quality barley varieties to malting quality using marker assisted selection. This can be achieved due to the recent advances in the genetics of malt quality and marker assisted selection. Anticipated outcomes will include a new method for developing malting quality varieties and in the longer term, new malting quality types that have improved yield and disease resistance. This research is funded by ABB Grain through the Molecular Plant Breeding CRC and is part of The University of Adelaide Barley Program.
