Dr Farhid Hemmatzadeh
Dr Farhid Hemmatzadeh joined The University of Adelaide as a senior lecturer of virology in 2009. Previously, he was employed by The University of Melbourne as a postdoctoral fellow and associate professor in 2007. He received his DVM (1990) and then PhD (1997) degrees in the field of virology from The University of Tehran. Since then he has been working as a lecturer and associate professor in the area of Virology at both Tehran and Melbourne universities. His teaching interests are in the field of Molecular Biology of the Animal Viruses and Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Diseases.
Dr Farhid Hemmatzadeh has been involved in research in the field of molecular epidemiology and test development for of viral diseases in wide range of animals with focus on avian Influenza, Newcastle Disease, Bovine Viral Disease, Border Disease, Bovine leucosis and the Herpesviral infection in cattle, horses, and sheep.
Over the last 20 years, Farhid has utilized molecular biological techniques such as SDS-PAGE, immunoaffinity purification, monoclonal antibody, designing of ELISA, immunisation, Southern and Northern dot-blotting, primer extension, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, Real time PCR and HRM analysis, sequencing, cloning, gene expression and purification of the fusion proteins, cell culture and virus isolation, phage display and recombinant monoclonal antibodies together with bioinformatics methods in his research projects.
