Biography/ Background

 

Dr Tan is a dentist, senior lecturer and an active researcher in Geriatric Oral Health, population oral health and preventive dentistry. She has been involved in 4 geriatric oral health intervention project, in collaboration with South Australian Dental Service. She is the Chief Investigator A of an Australia NHMRC project titled “Prevention and control of caries in older adults in residential aged care” and also a chief investigator of another NHMRC project. She holds the 2015 International Association for Dental Research Unilever Social Entrepreneur Approach to Change Oral Health Behavior Award, ACFF community grant, RM Gibson Scientific Research Fund Grant and Australian Dental Research Foundation Grant.

Teaching experience

To life the profile of Geriatric Dentistry in the dental undergraduate curriculum, Dr

Tan has been teaching Geriatric Dentistry to BDS and BOH students since 2008. Being the course coordinator and teacher, she developed this new didactic curriculum, including teaching materials and teaching portfolio in 2008-09. Recently,

she has developed the proposal for clinical teaching in Geriatric Dentistry for BDS4 and 5 students and is directing the clinical teaching in Geriatric Dentistry.

Serving as an oral session chairperson twice at the IADR/AADR 90th General Session, Brazil in 2012 and the IADR/AADR 91st General Session, Seattle, USA in 2013.
