Associate Professor Kogilam (Kogi) Naidoo

She plays a strategic role in contributing to and enhancing the current programs and support offered by the CLPD She offers leadership and shares her expertise in the areas of academic staff development focusing on teaching development support, curriculum development and assessment. Kogi is currently reviewing how best the CLPD is able to work with staff in the faculties in meeting the needs of both staff and students to offer quality academic programmes. Kogi has extensive experience in the areas of academic development, research and quality assurance. Her postgraduate research includes designing self-evaluation programs for staff development and a quality assurance mechanism for academic programs. She has presented and published her work nationally and internationally. Kogi has numerous prestigious academic awards and fellowships, including the South African Junior Technikon Fellowship Award, the Ernest Oppenheimer Gold Medal and the South African Association for Research and Development in Higher Education (SAARDHE) Young Achiever Award. She was awarded the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) Fellowship in 2003. She has been an active executive member of HERDSA, playing a key role in developing and implementing the guidelines for the HERDSA Fellowship Recognition and Development Professional Development Scheme. Prior to coming to Australia, Kogi lectured in English Communication and Education, and was head of staff development and research and quality assurance departments in South Africa. In New Zealand, she was Assistant Director and Training Consultant in the Training and Development Unit at Massey University. Her research expertise and focus is in higher education and focuses on the scholarship of teaching. As principal investigator and project director she led a national research team project involving 7 New Zealand universities as collaborating partners investigating the impact of academic development on first year student learning.
