Mr Madhan Balasubramanian

I am currently enrolled as a PhD student in Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH), School of Dentistry. Since 2009, I have been working as a Research Officer in the oral health services group in ARCPOH. My past and current roles include: 2010 (onwards) International Student Representative, Higher Degree by Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, The University of Adelaide 2009 (onwards) Research Officer, ARCPOH, School of Dentistry, The University of Adelaide 2008 - 2009 Australia-India Council Junior Fellow, Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Hosted by the University of Queensland). 2007 - 2009 Research and Development Coordinator/Lecturer, The Apollo Hospitals Group. 2006 - 2007 Tutor / Teaching assistant, Griffith University. 2004 - 2005 Work Experience Candidate, Queensland Health. My doctoral research mainly aims in understanding the determinants involved in the migration of overseas trained dentists into, within and out of Australia. The study will provide a model/measure that could be used in prospective evaluation of migration tendencies and assist in influencing useful migration patterns. International cooperation could be strengthened by fostering better relations with developing countries where ethical migration becomes key priority to sustain their health care resources. Hosted by the University of Queensland. 2008 (Mar) Travel grant of by the Hôpitaux Universitaries de Genève (HUG) to participate in the World Health Forum, Geneva, 2008. 2007 (Aug) World Bank Institute Scholarship to participate in the Global Advanced Flagship Program in Semmelweis University, Hungary. 2005 (Mar) Eberharld Wenzel Scholarship for International Public Health for academic excellence in public health. 2004 (Dec) Griffith Award for Academic excellence for exceptional performance in the Masters of Health Service Management Program. 2004 (Oct) Topped the Masters in Health Service Management Program with an overall GPA of 6.5 and a perfect 7 (4 HD’s) in Semester 2, 2004. 2003 (Aug) Awarded community development awards for contributing towards the oral health care in rural and remote India. 1988 - 1997 One of the consistent academic toppers, who topped the class from Standard 4 to Standard 10 during his Secondary and High School.
