Dr Mark Gibson
Biography/ Background
Mark was awarded his BSc (Hons) in 1976 followed by his PhD in 1980 by the University of Manchester, UK. In 1980, he joined the Department of Pathology as a Research Associate and then was appointed as an NH&MRC Research Officer in 1983, followed by an appointment as an NH&MRC Senior Research Officer. In 1990, he was awarded an NIH Fogarty International Research Fellowship at the Washington University, St Louis, USA and returned to the University of Adelaide as an NH&MRC Research Fellow in 1993. In 2000 he was promoted to an NH&MRC Senior Research Fellowship. His research interests centre around the role of the extracellular matrix in health and disease. Specifically, his current research is concerned with the cell and molecular biology of elastic fibres, congenital disorders of connective tissues, and extracellular matrix biology.
