To link to this page, please use the following URL: Biography/ BackgroundPhillip Edmonds is well known as a short story writer through publication in most Australian literary magazines. He has extensive editing experience, firstly through Contempa (1972-79) and currently with Wet ink (the magazine of new writing) which he co -founded in 2005. His most recent publication is the novella Leaving Home with Henry (Australian Scholarly Publishing). In 1997 he was awarded his PhD, a study of the contemporary short story in Australia in which he has a passionate interest through his own writing and in encouraging new writers. Prior to joining Adelaide University in 2004, Phillip taught at the Victorian College of the Arts, Deakin University and Griffith University and worked for a number of years as a journalist, oral historian and bookseller. He has been a judge of numerous literary awards such as, The Age Short Story Prize, and Writer-in-Residence in a number of organizations including a primary school, a trade union, a radio station and a hospital. Apart from the short story as a literary and cultural form, Phillip's research interests extend to the socio-political contexts in which 'fiction' is written and received, something he explored in depth for his PhD. He is also interested in the possible intersections between creative writing programs and publishing. Phillip is currently writing a history of literary magazines in Australia between 1969 and 2010.
