Biography/ Background

I am the Head of the Australian School of Petroleum and the PIRSA (SA State Government) Professor of Petroleum Geology at the University of Adelaide. Prior to this I was a lecturer in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Adelaide and I have been a Research Fellow at the British Geological Survey (Edinburgh, UK) and at Flinders University (Adelaide).

I work with a group of ~10 post-docs and PhD students researching petroleum geomechanics and sedimentary basin tectonics at the Australian School of Petroleum. The details of my research interests are best summarised in the attached file of publications.

I enjoy both the pure science and applied aspects of my research. I have been extensively involved with industry having taught short courses in Australia, Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, UK and Vietnam. I have undertaken approximately 35 consulting projects for 25 Australian and international oil companies. I am also a non-executive director of JRS Petroleum Research Pty. Ltd. (a privately-owned petroleum geomechanics and image log consultancy) and of Petratherm Ltd. (an ASX-listed geothermal energy company).
