  • Biography/ Background

    Professor Roger Leigh was the founding Director of the Waite Research Institute at the University of Adelaide. He held this role from April 2009 to December 2012. He retired from the University in November 2014.

    Professor Leigh joined the University in October 2006 and was Head of the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine until early 2010 when he stepped down to concentrate on the Waite Research Institute role. Prior to moving to Adelaide he was Professor of Botany at the University of Cambridge and a Professorial Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge. Before Cambridge, Professor Leigh worked at Rothamsted Experimental Station (now Rothamsted Reseach) based at Harpenden in the UK. He rose to the post of Deputy Director.

    Before retirement, Professor Leigh’s research interests lay in the area of nutrient transport in plants. He published widely and was a well-known internatiional expert in this area.

    He was President of the Australian Council of Deans of Agriculture from 2008 to 2010 and held various roles in the Society for Experimental Biology in the UK including Vice-President (2003-2005) and President (2005-2007).
