Biography/ Background

Tanya has worked for the past nine years with the University of Adelaide, eight in the Discipline of General Practice. She holds a Master of Health Administration and is currently working as Manager for the Australian Research Centre for Health of Women and Babies (ARCH) within the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Her previous work experience includes five years with a Division of General Practice.

Her research interests have centred around general practice in the areas of chronic disease management including point of care testing, nursing in general practice and building practice capacity utilising both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Tanya spent five years on a large randomised controlled trial assessing the safety, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and satisfaction of point of care testing in a general practice setting. Prior to that she worked in collaboration with the University of New South Wales undertaking research to investigate the organisational capacity of general practices to provide quality chronic disease care.

Current Project
Her current research interests focus on maternal and perinatal health.  Her work includes coordinating an individual patient data (IPD) meta-analyses to assess the use of magnesium sulphate in women at risk of preterm birth for fetal neuroprotection. The study, using data already collected in existing individual trials, will reveal which women and/or babies will benefit from antenatal magnesium sulphate.
