To link to this page, please use the following URL: Biography/ BackgroundKnown around Australia, New Zealand, and North America as Dr Tom Cat, Tom has been a common vistor, in demand speaker, and practice consultant in Australia and New Zealand since 2001. These endeavours have been shelved since accepting the position as Hospital Director, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Roseworthy Campus (start date January 2010). BS, Animal Science/Genetics, Montana State University; BS Veterinary Science, Colorado State University; Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Colorado State University; Masters in Healthcare Administration, Baylor University. Diplomate, American College of Healthcare Executives; Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives Following a diversified military career (medical administration for 8 years, then veterinary medicine for 13 years), Tom served as Hospital Serives Director, American Animal Hospital Association. As President of Veterinary Practice Consultants he designed and built the largest veterinary exclusive, full-time, diplomate led, veterinary consulting firm in North America. Since 2007, as CEO of Veterinary Consulting International, he developed a two hemisphere veterinary consulting service (www.drtomcat.com). On 31 May 2010, assumes role as husband to Dr. Karen L. Koks (www.zillmerevet.com), a long awaited privileged role. The wedding will be at the Power House, New Farm, Brisbane, following the Pan Pacific Veterinary Conference (Karen and Tom are presentors). Teaching InterestsTeam-based healthcare delivery, leadership, enhancement of life skills, organizational behavior, communications, practice management, life cycle-based wellness programs, and related operational issues. PublicationsOver 300 articles in journals and proceedings in past 20 years. Author of 15 texts in Veterinary Practice Leadership, Management and Operations, including three on Hospital Design. The last two texts, The Practice Success Prescription: Team-based Veterinary Healthcare Delivery (March 2008) and Promoting the Human-Animal Bond in Veterinary Practice, 2nd Edition (March 2009) are available for free download from the VIN Library.
