  • Biography/ Background

    Dr Wendy Cheung is a Lecturer and course coordinator for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in Paediatric Dentistry at the Adelaide Dental School. She received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Graduate Diploma of Clinical Dentistry, and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) degrees from the University of Adelaide. Wendy was an examiner for the Australian Dental Council and remains active in the examination process of the ADC. She served as the Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (SA Branch) for many years, as a reviewer in peer reviewed public health and dental journals, and a past Paediatric Dentistry Consultant at the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital. Wendy has been involved in clinical teaching and lecturing since 2001, while continuing research work at ARCPOH and involved in clinical work at SA Dental Service, AWCH, and has her own private practice at Adelaide Children's Dentistry. Wendy has an interest in working with children with Special Needs and is a recipient of 2013, 2014, 2015 ADAF Wrigley Grant looking into improving oral care and health of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and children with Special Needs. In 2014, together with Dr Gloria Mejia, was awarded the ADRF International College of Dentist Community Oral Health Award for the 'Mum and Child Oral Health Project', looking into the relationship between maternal factors, early childhood caries, and enamel defects. Currently, Wendy is undertaking a PhD in the area of early dental prevention intervention in Indigenous children, and treatment bias in children.
