Biography/ Background

Work Experience
Pasture Agronomist, NSW Department of Agriculture. Senior Research Scientist, SA Research & Development Institute. Senior Lecturer, University of Adelaide. Over 25 years experience in research on pasture agronomy and ecology. A focus has been on the integration of pastures into cropping systems. This interest has led to developing expertise in agricultural system simulation.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (Honours). School of Australian Environmental Studies, Griffith University.

Doctor of Philosophy, Department of Agronomy and Soil Science, University of New England.

Research Interests

Pastures in cropping systems.

Agricultural system simulation.

The use of perennial forages to manage dryland salinity.

Climate variability and climate change.

Particpatory research approaches.

Resource use efficiency of rainfed agricultural systems in southern Australia and western China.

Professional Interests

The agronomy and ecology of pastures.
The role of pastures in cropping systems. Soil water and soil nitrogen dynamics in pasture – crop systems. The use of perennial legumes to reduce recharge and the spread of dryland salinity. Farming Systems Research involving the integration of simulation modelling with on-farm monitoring
