The University of Adelaide - Singapore Campus is a joint venture between two of the oldest and most respected institutions in the Asia Pacific region: the Ngee Ann Kongsi and the University of Adelaide. The Ngee Ann Kongsi is a foundation which is actively involved in educational, cultural and welfare activities in Singapore. Founded in 1845 by Chinese immigrants, the Ngee Ann Kongsi has grown from a community bound by a common heritage and genuine concern for the welfare of its members to a foundation that now serves the community regardless of race, religion or social status.

The vision of the partners is to provide a high quality educational facility in Singapore combining under-graduate and post-graduate academic programs with applied executive and professional development courses taught by experienced consultants and professionals.

Role of the Academic Director

The Academic Director has a co-ordinating and leadership role in the academic activities undertaken at the Singapore Campus and in the expansion of teaching programs and student numbers at the Campus.

Key responsibilities include:

• liaison with program co-ordinators to ensure the quality of the curriculum and student experience;
• assisting in the identification and development of new programs for the Singapore Campus;
• establishing and maintaining relationships with the public and private sector in Singapore, including the polytechnic sector and other universities.
• supporting the development of the Singapore Campus as a regional centre of excellence for undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Biography of Professor Iain Reid, B.Sc. (Hons I), PhD, DSc, FAIP, Senior Member IEEE

Professor Reid has over 25 years experience in the area of remote sensing of the atmosphere using both radar and optical techniques.  He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics, and a Senior Member of the IEEE.  He is the Australian Discipline Representative for the International Scientific Committee on Solar and Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP) and is Chair of the Australian Institute of Physics National Committee on Solar Terrestrial Physics.

He is a Professor of Physics in the School of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Adelaide, and the author of 125 scientific and technical papers, 148 conference presentations, and 50 invited presentations.

He is the Executive Director of ATRAD group of companies and has been a company director for more than 14 years. He has been a board member for a number of University related companies.
