Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) Initiative
Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) is a research quality and evaluation system developed by the Australian Research Council (ARC) in conjunction with the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIICCSRTE).
ERA aims to identify research quality and promote excellence across the full spectrum of research activity within Australian higher education institutions. ERA evaluation uses a combination of metrics and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts.
Reporting and evaluation for ERA is by discipline grouping. There are eight discipline groupings defined according to Fields of Research (FoR) codes.
The second full ERA evaluation was conducted in 2012. ERA 2012 results, announced in December 2012, further boost the University of Adelaide's reputation for world-class research, with 39 research areas rated above world class, and 60 research areas rated at or above world class, an improvement on the University's ERA 2010 evaluations.
For full ERA 2012 results visit the ERA 2012 National Report on the ARC's website.
For full ERA 2010 results visit the ERA 2010 National Report on the ARC's website.
The third round of ERA occurs in 2015.
