Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) Initiative
Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) is an initiative of the Federal Government. ERA is a research quality and evaluation system developed by the Australian Research Council (ARC) in conjunction with the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR).
ERA is designed to assess research quality using a combination of metrics and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts.
Reporting and evalution for ERA is by Discipline Cluster, of which there are eight. Discipline Clusters are defined according to Fields of Research codes.
The first full ERA evaluation was conducted in 2010. ERA 2010 results were announced in early 2011 and the results confirmed the University of Adelaide's position as an Australian leader in research, with 19 out of 22 research discipline areas (86% of them) rated at or above world standard. For full ERA 2010 results visit the ARC's website.
The next iteration of ERA will occur in 2012.
