The Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification (ANZSRC) allows Research & Development activity to be categorised according to Fields of Research (FoR).  FoR codes are a fundamental component of ERA processes.

ERA evaluations are undertaken by Research Evaluation Committees (RECs) according to discipline groupings.  This page outlines the eight discipline groupings, defined by Group-level (4-digit) FoR codes.

The ARC uses a range of indicators and other proxies to support the evaluation of research excellence.  This page provides details on the citation data reference period and information about the citation data supplier for ERA 2012.

The ERA Journal List defines the journals that are eligible for institutions' ERA submissions - that is, scholarly, peer reviewed journals that publish original research and were active in the research outputs reference period.  ERA 2012 and ERA 2010 journal lists are available for download as Microsoft Excel (xls) files.

The rating scale used for ERA 2012 and ERA 2010 is broadly consistent with the approach taken in research evaluation processes in other countries, to allow for international comparison where appropriate.  This page outlines the descriptors of each of the quality ratings.
