Staff Hours Surveys

To gain access to additional funds under the Sustainable Research Excellence (SRE) initiative, the University is required to conduct a substantial Staff Hours survey.

It is mandatory for all staff who undertake research to complete this survey.

The University is required by the Department for Innovation, Industry, Science & Research (DIISR) to achieve at least a 67% response rate for the Staff Hours survey.

Under-participation will directly jeopardise the University’s chance of achieving a strong funding allocation.

What is the University of Adelaide’s survey like?

The University has designed its Staff Hours survey based on Guidelines published by DIISR.

All survey participants will be required to complete a time sheet exercise. You will be asked to record how much time (in hours) you have spent on a set of defined activities over the survey period. Completing the survey should take no more than about 10 minutes per week.

The survey will measure how much time you spend ‘undertaking research’, according to the definition supplied by DIISR.

To help determine whether you meet DIISR's definition of ‘undertaking research’, you will be asked to consider a set of clear examples at the start of the survey. You will then be asked to state whether or not any of these examples applies to your role.
