Our Achievements

This is page is an ongoing record of our University's sustainability achievements to date. 

2011

  • Won a Green Gown Award in the Student Campaigns and Initiatives category
  • Received an EPA Sustainability Licence – 1st University in the State!
  • Replaced Badger Laboratory equipment to save 3.2ML of water annually (4% of the overall water consumption on the North Terrace Campus) 
  • Provided advice and support for the successful Fair Trade Accreditation proposal for the University
  • 469 Ecoversity Facebook friends
  • Development of an Energy Management Plan and continued calculation and modelling of our carbon emissions and the opportunities that may arise with the introduction of a price on carbon

2010

  • Started the Ecoleader program to harness staff and student passion for sustainability through a voluntary leadership program
  • Recycled 22.4 tonnes of unwanted electronic equipment from all campuses
  • Installed 2 bin recycling stations on the North Terrace Campus
  • Formed an Environmental Compliance Committee
  • Implemented a comprehensive web-based sustainability management and reporting tool
  • Completed a review of Waste and Recycling practices at the Waite and Roseworthy Campuses 
  • Developed a 5 year Waste and Recycling Management Plan
  • Supported staff and students keen to swap driving for cycling to campus through the Ecorider program, saving (approx.) 6 tonnes of Co2
  • Ran a 2 week Student Internship focused on waste and water auditing

2009

  • Recycled 19.8 tonnes of unwanted electrical items from all campuses
  • National Ride to Work Day Award for the largest higher education organisation participation in Australia
  • Completed a review of Waste and Recycling practices on the North Terrace Campus and at the National Wine Centre
