Green Project Fund

The Ecoversity Green Project Fund is an annual $100,000 initiative by the Office of Sustainability to provide capital for projects that reduce the University’s environmental impact and advance the long-term sustainability of the campus and the campus community.

Any student, staff member or operational group (faculty/school/institute) of the University may apply for a maximum of $20,000 (inc. GST) per project. Associated groups such as alumni and community organisations are permitted and encouraged to collaborate with applicants and serve as members of project teams.

Successful applicants are awarded a portion of the fund and savings from the projects will be reinvested into the fund to support future Green Project projects. The Green Project Fund supports projects that:

  • improve operational environmental performance,
  • contribute to University Sustainability Targets, and,
  • demonstrate the viability of best practices, research and technologies.

See the Evaluation Criteria.

The next Green Project Funding Round is in 2013 – stay tuned for more details.

2012 Green Project Fund

Law School Sustainability – Full funding
The Law School undertook a Sustainability Assessment with the Office of Sustainability in 2011. The assessment recommended that a number of small energy efficiency projects (largely building retrofits) be undertaken, in conjunction with a behavioural change project.

LED Lighting – Full funding
The project proposes to fit out of small areas of the university with LED lighting for testing and evaluation. These areas would include offices, work stations and hallways/stairwells. Energy consumption can be measured before and after installation to supply feedback on the brands and types of LED.

Student Records – Electronic Document Management (EDM) – Partial funding with dependences
This project is designed to fully extend TRIM EDM for student records within ECMS in 2013. The funding will provide a dedicated pool of 20 TRIM licences. This project will replace future hardcopy student records (in addition to uncontrolled electronic records) with a single consolidated student record for each ECMS student in TRIM.

Project Verte – Green IT – Full funding
Project Verte will save energy through the replacement of 5 out-of-warranty University computers, with new state-of-the-art hardware. Technology Services will monitor the power consumption of both old and new technology, in order to compare the energy efficiency of each. The project aims to prove that new technology saves the University considerable electricity and maintenance costs, and offers additional benefits to staff, such as increased productivity.

Water at Waite - Partial funding with dependences
Creating water efficiencies and harvesting opportunities at the Waite Campus.

Green Composting - Full funding
This project will allow for installation and operation of a BioBin® that will compost animal remains through a process of aerobic composting.

Solar Array at Roseworthy – Full funding with dependences
Student houses and buildings at Roseworthy consume a considerable amount of energy (electricity to power lighting, appliances and to heat water). A tailored system will be developed to supply renewable energy to selected residences.

Hub Central Edible Garden – Full funding with dependences
The Edible Garden can provide an opportunity for students to grow and eat produce on campus. The garden also offers the opportunity to demonstrate sustainable living practices, the benefits of locally produced food and bush food.
