Our Services

To be successful, students need access to high quality academic, administrative and support services. The University of Adelaide is committed to making your time as a student enjoyable and productive, and prides itself on its wide range of high quality support services for international students.
Staff at the English Language Centre are happy to assist with any questions, from accommodation to study concerns, with on-going support from teachers and administrative staff.

Accommodation Assistance

There are a variety of accommodation options available to international students in Adelaide.

If you require accommodation of 4 weeks or more, you may choose to stay with an Australian family – in ‘home-stay’ accommodation. It is a great way to settle into a new city, learn about the culture and practise English in real-life situations.

Home-stay can be arranged for a placement fee from AUD $200 and payment from AUD $200 per week.

Please note that this option is only available to students of the University of Adelaide's, English Language Centre.

Orientation

We are proud of our safe, accessible city. The University provides services to ensure that newly arrived students enjoy a smooth transition into a new country and environment. Upon arrival students are met at the airport and taken to pre-arranged accommodation, and given a guided tour of the University of Adelaide campus.

Comprehensive orientation sessions help students settle into life and study as quickly as possible. Orientation sessions will cover a wide range of topics from accommodation to culture differences to time management. The English Language Centre will endeavour to provide you with a smooth transition into life and study in your new environment.

For relevant programs, a short placement test will take place on your first day to assist you in finding the best class for your proficiency level and learning goals.

Library

The University of Adelaide's Barr Smith Library is an outstanding teaching and research library of more than two million volumes.

All students studying in PEP, GEAP and TESOL programs have access to the Barr Smith Library.

Computer Facilities

PEP, GEAP and TESOL students have access to the English Language Centre computer suite as well as the university’s wide facilities for their study requirements. You will have your own email account, access to the internet and the University’s online resources. All classrooms in The English Language Centre are fitted with a variety of multi-media ensuring a relevant and modern learning environment.

Campus Life

You have the opportunity to enjoy a vibrant social life on campus, with a variety of recreational and sport associations, a university gym and cafes serving international food.
Additionally, the university community has access to a medical centre, bank, post office, travel agent and various student services such as employment assistance and counselling.
The University has large population of international students from all over the world, and your campus life provides a great way to meet fellow countrymen and women, and to make lifelong friends with students from other countries.

Social Activities

The English Language Centre understands that students need to intersperse their hard work with times of relaxation and enjoyment. The English Language Centre Social Club offers students a variety of affordable social activities and excursions. Recent excursions have included trips to the harbour for dolphin spotting tours, tours of the historic Adelaide Hills village of Hahndorf and ten pin bowling competitions.

The English Language Centre also has its own indoor soccer team which competes on a weekly basis.

Graduation

While studying at the English Language Centre you will be assessed on a regular basis to ensure you are making satisfactory progress in all areas of your learning. On successful completion of an ELC program, you are presented with a University of Adelaide English Language Centre Certificate of Completion.
