At the masterclasses, international musicians of the highest standing will
work with students from the Elder Conservatorium. The series gives members of
the public the chance to see and hear students being instructed by some of the
best musicians in their fields.

MASTERCLASS 1
IMOGEN COOPER
PIANO
Monday 18 May - 1pm to 3pm - Admission $10
‘Recognised worldwide as a pianist of virtuosity and poetic poise, English
pianist Imogen Cooper has
established a reputation as one of the finest interpreters of the classical repertoire.’
Recent performances have included the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic
and Philharmonia Orchestras. This year she will perform with Simon Rattle and
the Philadelphia Orchstra, Boston Symphony with Colin Davis, a tour with the
London Symphony Orchstra and a tour of Australia.

MASTERCLASS 2
ADELE ANTHONY
VIOLIN

Since her triumph at Denmark's 1996 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition, Adele
Anthony has enjoyed an acclaimed and expanding international career with
a performance schedule including both solo appearances and chamber music performances.
Highlights of Ms. Anthony's performance schedule include performances with
the San Diego Symphony at its
season opening gala concert and solo recitals of the complete works of Bach for
solo violin. She continues to perform in duo recital with her husband, Gil Shaham,
having recently completed a seven-city European tour including performances in
Bilbao, Paris and at the Prague Spring Festival.
One of Australia’s most successful and beloved artists, we welcome
Adele Anthony back to the Elder Conservatorium of Music, where she was once a
young and aspiring student.

RAY VEGA
JAZZ | TRUMPET

As well as being an outstanding performer and band director, Raymond
Vega is a highly respected educator who teaches trumpet, arranging, jazz
history and composition, improvisation and Afro-Carribean percussion. He has
recently been appointed Head of Jazz Studies at the University
of Vermont, one of the most prestigious jazz programs in the US.
He is a much sought after lecturer across the USA and presents masterclasses
and workshops in jazz arranging, bands, and trumpet and brass performance and
technique. The Elder Conservatorium is thrilled to host a masterclass by such
a high profile musician and educator as Ray Vega.

ELIAS STRING QUARTET
CHAMBER MUSIC

The Elias String Quartet,
consisting of French, Scottish and Swedish members, is resident at the Universities
of Sheffield and York in northern
England. This intense and brilliant young quartet spent a year studying with
the Alban
Berg Quartet in Cologne and have received many honours at major international
competitions.
