Postgraduate Forum - February 2010

Glenelg to Adelaide Park Lands Recycled Water Project (GAP Project)

The first EI Postgraduate Forum took place on 18 February with a visit to the Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant organised by the Australian Water Association's SA Branch Young Water Professionals.

This tour was a great opportunity to see how the Glenelg to Adelaide Park Lands Recycled Water Project has progressed since it was first visited as part of the 2008 WRC Postgraduate Forums.  The tour included presentations from two speakers, Chris Hewitson and Craig Heidenreich (both from United Water). Chris spoke about design process and alliance structure and Craig explained plant operations.  The tour was followed by a networking session at The Holdfast.

Student feedback

Nine Postgraduates attended the tour and found it to be a good opportunity to view the latest water recycling technologies and appreciated the value of the project: "The Glenelg to Adelaide Park Lands Recycled Water Project is a very important initiative to maintain the greenness of the Adelaide city during the shortage of freshwater.  The tour was well delivered by a group of experts from different companies and contractors, which forms the Alliance."
