Remote Pilot Licence Course

The University of Adelaide offers a commercial drone course leading to the award of a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA).

RePL Course

This five-day intensive RePL Course is conducted on University of Adelaide campuses by a team of CASA-certified remote pilots and trainers from the University.

Courses available

  1. Remote Pilot Licence Course, Multirotor up to 7 kg
    • Five-day intensive course (~40 hours).
    • Requires no prerequsite or previous drone experience.
    • Includes all required theory and practical syllabus and requirements of CASA for a RePL.
    • Includes English Language Proficiency assessment (ELP).
    • Includes Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC).
    • Includes textbook: Remote Pilot License RePL Study Guide, by Bob Tait and Ben Harris.
    • Includes in-house examinations and CASA processing fees for ELP, AROC and RePL.
    • Please note that the minimum age requirement for the issuance of an RePL with AROC by CASA is 17 years old.
  2. Operation (Practical Type) Training
    • Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot Licence holders: If you had passed an aeronautical knowledge exam for a CASA flight crew licence, you can complete an Operation (Practical Type) Training with us to get type rated for an RePL.
    • RePL licence holders: If you currently hold an RePL, you can complete an Operation (Practical Type) Training with us to get type rated for other categories of aircraft, including
      • Multirotor up to 7 or 25 kg
      • Fixed wing up to 7 or 25 kg
    • Operation (Practical Type) Training depends on your prior experience and qualifications. It typically involves 1-2 days of intensive practical training and testing to meet all syllabus and requirements of CASA.

  • We can arrange to run ad hoc courses for government, education and industry groups with a minimum of five confirmed attendees. Please contact us to discuss the needs of your organisation.
