Water is Life in the Murray River
A collaboration with ZoosSA/Conservation Ark
The importance of water to all of us has been underlined by nine years of drought, severe cuts to irrigation water and water restrictions in towns and cities. For plants and animals in the Murray River ecosystem, water is just as critical to their well-being and survival. The plants and animals of the River Murray have evolved to cope with the wide natural variation in conditions, from droughts to floods. Each group of animals and plants have strategies to adapt to dry and wet conditions, so that they can survive and thrive on the floodplain, along the river banks and in the river itself.
Internationally renown author Sean Williams composed the poem Reflections on water as part of Water is Life. Read his poem here.
