ERGA Executive
The ERGA Executive members are active in the field of education research, and are accomplished teachers. Collectively, the executive has 17 awards for teaching and are participants in a range of funded education research projects, including 3 ALTC Competitive Grants.
Centre for Learning and Professional Development, University of Adelaide Edward is a professional educator with years of experience in developing, implementing and analysing the impact of educational initiatives on tertiary students. He is the coordinator of Evaluations and Survey Services and a casual teacher in the Discipline of Physics. With a background in engineering, physics and medicine his current interests are evaluation, on-line and electronic education, and technological teaching aids. | Katrina Falkner School of Computer Science, University of Adelaide Katrina Falkner has broad lecturing experience, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and off-shore intensive courses. Katrina's current primary lecturing responsibility is first year introductory Computer Science, which has a diverse intake of domestic and international students. Katrina's main research interests include supporting the transition to university for undergraduate and international students, and pedagogy for introductory Computer Science and Engineering courses. |
Discipline of Genetics, University of Adelaide Michelle is a keen geneticist whose primary interest is effective learning and teaching in genetics and molecular and cellular biology. Her educational research interests are evolving and developing, and include: scientific numeracy, literature research skills and effective assessmentand feedback. | Kerrie Le Lievre (Administrative Officer) Kerrie is a freelance Project Officer/ Project Manager who has worked on two ALTC-funded educational research projects: Professor Geoffrey Crisp's 'Peer Review of Teaching for Promotion Purposes' project, and Dr John Willison's 'Research Skill Development and Assessment in the Curriculum' project. |
School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Adelaide Said Al-Sarawi is a lecturer with years of experience in the design and development of highly integrated electronic circuits for telecommunication and biomedical applications. He has a strong educational interest in maintaining learning and teaching quality in higher education, and seeks to achieve this through utilising and developing innovative learning and teaching techniques for engineering education. This forms the basis of his current educational research interests, which also include investigating factors which affect students’ evaluations of courses in different disciplines. | School of Computer Science, University of Adelaide Brad Alexander is a lecturer in the school of Computer Science. He has several years experience in teaching a broad range of computing topics in a variety of settings. He has a keen interest in developing processes and mechanisms for fast feedback on programming assignments, the avoidance of plagiarism, and in promoting activities to make computing more interactive and engaging. Brad is currently a member of the SSABSA IT Subject Advisory Committee, the Computer Science Learning and Teaching Sub-Committee, acting coordinator of the Computer Science Learning Centre, Coach of the top Australian team in the 2006 world final of the ACM Programming Contest. |
| Discipline of Microbiology & Immunology, University of Adelaide James is an avid microbiologist who has chosen to apply his knowledge to educating future Microbiologists. His current role is focused on co-ordinating and delivering practical classes for 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate Science students, as well as delivering lectures and tutorials. His current research interests focus on understanding students' perceptions of the courses that he teaches, with the aim of improving the learning and teaching outcomes of those courses. | Department of Surgery, University of Adelaide Peter is a consultant surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. His interests focus on undergraduate education and the development and evaluation of educational tools and assessment processes. He is a member of the Australian Medical Council and responsible for the production of materials for the assessment of medical graduates. He has also published books and CDs for graduating medical students. |
| Joy McEntee School of Humanities, University of Adelaide Joy’s mission in life is to make students laugh – not only because it makes her popular, but because it helps students learn. The earnest way of putting is that that her educational research focus is on trialling methods for maximising students’ engagement with key ideas and techniques and developing their confidence and autonomy as self-directed learners. | Discipline of Biochemistry, University of Adelaide Lynn is coordinator of level 2 Biochemistry and teaches first and second year science students and first to third year medical students. Her current educational research involves the implementation of various learning strategies to improve student engagement and performance. As the diversity of students has increased she has tried to make the curriculum more student-focused and self-directed. She begins each year with the quote from John Ruskin: "Education is the leading of human souls to what is best, and making what is best of them", to try to pre-empt complaints from the students. |
Faculty of the Professions, University of Adelaide Nishani draws on extensive experience in Education at tertiary level in South Africa, Austria, Korea and China, engaging with students from varying educational, language and cultural backgrounds. She joined the Faculty of Professions in January 2006, applying her knowledge and skills in providing academic support to English as Additional Language (EAL) students. She works across all Schools in the development of curricula for delivery of appropriate programs and courses. | School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering, University of Adelaide David is the Deputy Head of the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering, as well as being Director of Teaching and Postgraduate Co-ordinator. His current educational research interests include: the evaluation of learning and teaching and the relationship between student satisfaction and performance. |
School of Education, University of Adelaide Linda completed her teaching qualification in 1985, her Honours in English in 1993 and her PhD in 2002 in Indigenous Women's Life-histories. She has taught in Women's Studies and Australian Studies at Flinders University, as well as worked as a teacher in secondary schools. Her current teaching and research focusses on Cultural Studies issues to do with education, ICT, Media and Higher Degree supervision. Her interests also include Gifted Education, Memory Work and gender debates. |
