The Animal Ethics Committees of the University of Adelaide and the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science will jointly conduct a one day training course for staff and honours/postgraduate students including those at other institutions on Friday 12th March 2010.

The annual course is particularly aimed at new users but is of interest and value to animal users generally. The broad object of the day's program is to draw attention to some of the ethical questions that must be considered when scientific and teaching activities relating to the conditional use of animals is proposed. There is particular emphasis on the responsibilities involved and on the importance of compliance with the Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes - 7th Edition 2004. In addition the program raises wider issues in relation to the humane use of animals.

New staff and students in particular are urged to attend this course.

The University of Adelaide must ensure that staff and students are aware of their responsibilities under the Code. It is expected that all new University of Adelaide animal users will attend this educational program. Evidence of attendance at this and other animal use training will be increasingly necessary.
