Fuels from Food Waste
Key Scientists:
It has been estimated that around 30% of the food produced in Australia is wasted from one cause or another. The remit of this unit to examine ways that this food can be converted to usable energy.
A major project underway is the development of enzyme based processes for the conversion of fatty waste from the meat industry to biodiesel. The aim is to ensure that the process has a very low carbon footprint and generates only minimal waste.
